The learning and challenges for our project can be split into two categories. Design learning and challenges and group learning and challenges.
We had many design challenges through our project. One of the biggest challenges for us was creating our brand. Finding the right colours for our brand was one of the challenges while creating our brand. We originally wanted to go with a orange and pink but this gave off a feminine vibe to the audience. This is what lead us to using a light blue and green as this looked more professional and fun but not as feminine. We also wanted to use a gradient as part of our brand to show movement. However this was hard to implement on our app as it made the design to busy and limiting.
Another challenge we had while designing our design outcomes was the creating a cohesive look through the poster series, mobile app and social media campaign. We struggled to make posters that matched the look of our app. However in the end we used some of the pixel art from our app icons in the poster to link the two together. This also helped the audience to understand what our posters and app are both about.
We also learnt how to use augmented reality through our posters. We wanted to have a game feel so using animation helped to provide this design aesthetic. None of us had used augmented reality before but after a few quick tutorials Allana was able to do it managed to make our posters augmented through ROAR. This really enhanced the design of our posters as it meant the audience could interact with them and helped to keep their attention for longer.
We also faced challenges when working as a group and found that after getting to know each other we started to work as a team.
One of the challenges we had was making sure everyone was on the same page and knew what their specific tasks to complete were. To overcome this we made sure we communicated with the rest of the group and used clear instructions on what we needed to be completed.
This also helped with our other challenge of time management. We allocated different tasks out so the workload was shared amongst us so that it was more manageable to complete in time. We also met up outside of class time. Either staying longer after class in order to complete tasks, or coming in on our days off so we could have group discussions and help each other.
We also learnt that if we allocated tasks to the person with the best suited skillset that the work was finished faster and to a better quality. This also helped with our time management but also helped to improve the quality of our work.
We all have different design styles so we had to compromise our design styles for the one that best suited our project. We also had to learn how to work in the specific design style so the work all flowed cohesively.
After overcoming the different challenges, we feel that we worked well as a team and this helped to increase the quality of our design outcomes.
